Despite of COVID-19, Vietnam still has a remarkable growth in exporting wood and wood products to large markets such as the US and UK, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Analyzing figures from General Department of Vietnam Customs, group of experts from Forest Trends and the Associations just released official report on Vietnam wood and wood product (W&WP) exports in the first 9 months of 2021. For this period, export turnover of W&WP reached US$ 10.76 billion, rose by 30.5% compared with the same period of 2020. In the first 9 months of 2021, the group of 6 high value categories occupies 94% of total W&WP export turnover, including furniture (45%, at US$ 4.83 billion, rose 21.4% yoy), chair (25%, at US$ 2.68 billion, rose 55.8% yoy), wood chip (12%, at US$ 1.33 billion, rose 16.6% yoy), plywood/ joint board (7%, at US$ 760.53 million, rose 49.1% yoy), wood pellet (3%, at US$ 299.60 million, rose 23%) and rotary veneer (1%, at US$ 151.65 million, rose 173% yoy).
Vietnam W&WP exports to the U.S. is remarkable with the turnover of US$ 6,50 billion, rose 40.5% yoy. Other staple markets are China – US$ 1.13 billion, Japan – US$ 1.01 billion, Korea – US$ 650.1 million, EU – US$ 438.3 million, UK – US$ 193.44 million, Canada – US$ 174.75 million, and Australia – US$ 110.61 million, respectively increased by 23.4%, 11.7%, 10.7%, 22.3%, 23.9%, 21.3%and 3.3%.
As the country’s reopening stage since Oct, the Government eases social distancing and lockdowns allowing the resumption of production. The W&WP export turnover in the first half of Oct 2021 reached US$ 397 million, rose 29.2% compared with the first half of Sep 2021. This is an optimistic signal that Vietnam W&WP sector is strongly recovering to foster its rank over global market!
